It’s Always Rewarding to Be Asked Back – Growing a Home in Two Phases

We’ve returned to a home we first extended a few years ago, this time adding a home office, a flexible project room and new French doors to the dining room.

At Thorn Homes, there’s something particularly rewarding about being invited back to work on a home we’ve previously transformed.

It’s not something that happens every day. Often, homeowners invest in an extension to give them the extra space they need, enjoy the benefits for several years and eventually move on to the next step on the property ladder.

We’ve also had many clients who, having moved to a new property, have come back to us to carry out further work. Building that relationship and being trusted to transform more than one home is something we’re incredibly proud of.

This particular client is a great example of the trust and relationships we value. When we first carried out work on their property, their neighbour also chose Thorn Homes to build their extension at the same time, following a personal recommendation. It’s always encouraging when one project leads to another through word of mouth.

But there’s something especially rewarding about returning to a property, seeing a previous extension being enjoyed exactly as it was intended and hearing how well it has worked for the family.

A Home Designed to Grow with Its Owners

This project is a great example of how a home can evolve over time.

From the outset, our client knew they would be extending their property in two phases. The first extension provided some much-needed practical space, incorporating a utility room and a separate WC and shower room. These additions made a real difference to the everyday functionality of the home.

Having lived with the improvements and enjoyed the extra space, the time was right to move ahead with phase two.

The latest extension creates two additional rooms: a dedicated home office and a separate project room, providing flexible space for work and other activities. Importantly, the second room has been designed with the future in mind, allowing it to be converted into a bedroom if family needs change.

The project also included replacing the existing sliding patio doors in the dining room with new, modern French doors. This refreshes the space and creates an inviting connection between the dining area and garden, allowing plenty of natural light into the room.

    Building for Today and Tomorrow

What makes this project particularly satisfying is seeing how the original extension has become part of the way our client lives, while the latest work builds on that foundation.

Extending a home isn’t always about creating as much space as possible all at once. Sometimes, planning improvements in stages is a more practical approach, allowing homeowners to adapt their property as their needs and circumstances change.

We’re delighted to have been invited back to continue this home’s transformation and grateful to our client for putting their trust in Thorn Homes once again.

For us, repeat business and personal recommendations are two of the greatest compliments we can receive. They mean we’ve delivered something our clients are happy with and confident enough to recommend to others – and that’s what it’s all about.
